Photoshop in Focus
March.2006 Newsletter // Training, Inspiration, Resources and more!

Welcome!

I hope your March is starting off well! I am excited to send off this month's newsletter. Let's dive right in....

In my own photographic workflow I am constantly reminded that with Photoshop, technical proficiency equals creative potential. At the same time, I am continually struck by how much there is to learn about Photoshop! It doesn't seem like a day goes by where I haven't learned something from someone. Thus, I definitely value having a photographic learning community. My hope is that this newsletter will further our ability to share knowledge. More specifically, I hope that it will give us a chance to collaborate and increase our technical know-how in order to create more compelling imagery. If you have a link, tutorial or trick that you'd like to share with the rest of us, please email it directly to me and I'll include it in the next newsletter. Finally, feel free to forward this newsletter to anyone who may find it helpful.

Orwig's Corner

Highlight 1: I recently had the privilege of speaking at Flashforward 2006 in Seattle! Flashforward is one of the world's leading Flash conferences. It was an amazing experience to collaborate and hang out with other people from around the world who share similar passions. I presented on Building a Portfolio in Flash and on Teaching Flash. The presentation notes, links and some photos from Seattle can be viewed here: solimarstudios.com/ff06.

Highlight 2: While I was up at Flashforward I had the chance to spend some time with some really cool people. It was excellent to hang with the usual Flash crew, the Macromedia and Adobe teams, and a few of the Photoshop guys like Colin Smith and Deke McClelland. One highlight was getting to sit down and talk with John Nack - Adobe Photoshop Product Manager. It was great to hear about his vision for CS3. His leadership, focus and vision are awesome! While the release is still a long way off, it was excellent to hear about some of the new features and speed improvements that will be coming our way. On a different note, John filled me in on a few of the upcoming (and really cool) Lightroom improvements. They are really ramping it up - I can't wait for the formal release! Also keep your eyes open for Apple's Aperture update which will be unveiled in the next few weeks. At this point, it is still too early for me to decide which tool I like better. Currently, I'm definitely leaning in favor of one of the tools, yet I'm planning to continue to test them both. I'll let you know my thoughts as they take shape.

Thanks,

Chris Orwig
